There is a similar compilation on the Lusafrica label “Soul of Angola” which is of an absolute beauty and even stronger – it’s one of my all time favourite CD’s, with next to no overlap to the Valentim de Carvalho compilation described above and plenty of the same artists.

There should be even more about somewhere in Portuguese archives – I’m looking for a while already for Lourdes Van Dunem but couldn’t find anything available, although she was a major Angolan star in the 60′s and 70′s

Unless you speak Portuguese there’s no point: the liner notes are not available in English. Too bad since it’s more of a book than liner notes… could be an interesting read.

I had the same question, because I could not find any liner notes. The company told me that’s how they keep the prices down. Still, it is a great series.

I’m one of those Luddites who actually likes to hold a CD or LP in my hand rather than download it to my computer. Is there a mail order source for this collection (preferably in the US)?
