Love your posts. I’ve been turned on to a lot of great music in the past year. The Thomas Alexie track deserves special mention though, kind of reminds me of tropicalia. Thanks so much for the posts.

Sounds like Haitian Creole! I heard some music from La Reunion once, and they speak a French creole there, too, unlike the Polynesian-based language of Madagascar.
