Franco deux
As promised, I’m back with some more Franco.
Today’s pick changes the speed and style up a bit. It’s also my personal Franco favourite. Why this is has something to do with the tone of one of the female backup’s voice. I can’t quite figure out what it is that affects me so much, but regardless this track has been on heavy rotation as I wander around the grey Parisian side-streets.
Likambo Ya Ngana was recorded in 1971. It’s a nice folky tune with acoustic guitar over a slow rumba beat, featuring some nice accordian work by Camille Feruzi. The track is a gentle reminder that Franco isn’t all about dancefloor explosions and soukous-speed guitar.

Welcome back and thank you very much for the music. My father has some Franco CDs but I’m sure most of them soukous. I really like these old tunes, so I’m going to look for his older stuff. Again, thanks.
got this on the rough guide cd. play it loud straight after “cumbia sobre el rio” by celso piño (also loud). anyone recommend any africa/cumbia blurring?? or similar sounding franco (does it come from an album like this?).
also, not exactly african, but does anyone know about dubby cumbia variants. got lost in dodgy parts of mexico city after a beetle breakdown and hear incredible stuff on a street corner (imagine standard cumbia, with all the cheesy syths taken off, with lots of crazy dub noises and vocals you might expect on early dancehall tracks) but wasn´t able to investigate at the time.
thanks, as always,
andy

Great song. Don’t know why, but it reminds me Mama Yeye (Mose ‘Fan Fan’). Different kind of song altogether but affects me similarly.
