A call for requests

Matt Yanchyshyn @ 11:56

Judging by the over 25GB you’ve downloaded so far in October and the many e-mails I’ve received, people seem to like this site. Thanks – I appreciate it.

I’ve received a couple hesitant requests over the last few days. Requests are more than welcome. They give me some direction and ideas when I go music shopping at the markets and sometimes introduce me to bands I might not otherwise buy or know. For those who have already requested, I haven’t forgotten about you: some Zaiko Langa Langa, Super Mama Djombo and late-70s Thione Seck is on the way; I found them at the market yesterday and will be posting them this week or next.

I always appreciate comments or e-mail and am open for trades, requests or suggestions. Cheers.

  4. Hi
I enjoy your site very much.
A couple years ago I heard a short NPR radio piece about a “pop music” compilation sponsored by a Zambian Department store…. an odd premise but the audio snippets sounded strange and interesting.

I don’t know if this hard to find or what; I’ve so far only heard small samples, and I just found this url:

    http://www.thezambian.com/Shopping/shoprite.aspx

I figure it’s worth at least checking out, if you happen to come across it. Might have some interesting tracks.

nanga def my man. i spent some time in dakar a few years back. your site is blazing bu baax! keep it coming! there’s a new comp out in the us with many dakarois groups. it’s on nomadic wax. if you want a taste of it, let me know, but i suspect you probably already have much of it. i’d like to hear more senegalese hip-hop, i miss the scene from when i was there. more tunes inna pbs stylee, but younger groups. also any moroccan pop, rai or otherwise. for real, though. big up yourself. this is a great site.

  7. Hey, I recently discovered your site, and I am a huge fan. I live in Los Angeles, but I firmly believe that Senegal produces the best music in Africa. The Gambian hip-hop was also wonderful, and I always enjoy Positive Black Soul (hadn’t heard that track, as only their “Salaam” album was released in the states!) I would love to hear some Daara J, as well. It’s true there’s nothing quite like rap in Wolof! Anyway, thanks again; your site is one of a kind!

  8. Yes big up mattgy, here two mp3 for u
